According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Xavi Hernandez is very open to the idea of managing Manchester United. However, the English club has not yet placed him on their shortlist of candidates to succeed Ruben Amorim.
Xavi has recently rejected several offers from both within and outside Europe, most recently reportedly from Chelsea after the London club sacked their manager Enzo Maresca and attempted to sign the Barcelona legend.
Romano indicates that Xavi is receptive to the Manchester United job and sees it as an ideal opportunity to return to coaching after more than two years away from the sidelines.
However, there has been no contact of any kind between United’s management and Xavi. It is likely that the Red Devils have other plans and prefer names with prior Premier League success rather than taking a third risk after Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains the frontrunner to replace Amorim on an interim basis until the end of the season. The Norwegian faces competition from Michael Carrick for the position, with the possibility that the pair could be appointed together.
Xavi had previously confirmed that he is in no hurry to return to coaching and prefers to wait for the right opportunity.
Manchester United’s current situation is similar to Barcelona’s when Xavi took over in 2021, making him a logical choice to rescue the club. However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s administration still specifically wants Oliver Glasner to be the permanent manager at Old Trafford.
