Xabi Alonso says yes to Liverpool job

Negotiations have begun between Liverpool’s management and Xabi Alonso for the Spanish coach to take over the reins at the English club, replacing Arne Slott.

Liverpool suffered a bitter 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth, continuing their poor domestic season and fueling calls for Slott’s immediate dismissal.

According to the newspaper AS, Liverpool’s management has already begun searching for Slott’s successor, though they are hesitant about sacking the Dutch coach now or waiting until the end of the season to thank him.

Alonso, recently dismissed from Real Madrid, tops the list of potential replacements for Slott, and John Henry’s management has already begun exploring the possibility of hiring him.

Although Alonso initially decided to take a break after his disappointing experience at Real Madrid, he has said “yes” to coaching Liverpool immediately if necessary, and all indications suggest that the Basque coach’s return to Anfield is only a matter of time.

Liverpool’s interest in Xabi Alonso is not new. The club tried to sign him after Jürgen Klopp’s departure in 2014, but he declined at the time, preferring to stay for another season with Bayer Leverkusen before joining Real Madrid last May.

Alonso managed Real Madrid in 34 matches, during which the team won 24, drew 4, and lost 6. He was dismissed after their 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in Jeddah.
