Kylian Mbappé scored two goals in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Celta Vigo, putting him on the verge of breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s La Liga record.
The French international’s brace brought his tally this season to 24 goals in 30 La Liga appearances.
The record for goals scored by a single player in his first season with Real Madrid was held by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2009-10 season, when he scored 26 goals.
Mbappé now sits third on this all-time list, behind Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s 25 goals in the 2006-07 season.
Mbappé now has the opportunity to break Ronaldo’s record, as there are four games left in the season, and a goal in each of them would be enough to see the 25-year-old break a legendary record by any standard.
It’s worth noting that Mbappé has increased his total goal contributions for Real Madrid in all competitions this season to 39 goals, scoring 35 and assisting 4 more.
