Al-Ahly drew 1-1 with hosts Pyramids at the Air Defense Stadium in the second round of the 2025 Egyptian League.
As is usual in matches between the two teams, the match was filled with refereeing controversy despite the presence of a foreign referee, Dutchman Daniel Makkelie.
It all began in the first half when Makkelie refused to show Rami Rabia a red card after he tripped Fiston Maile as he was about to break through.
Makkalie’s decisions continued to irritate Pyramids when he red-carded Mohand Lasheen in the second half after receiving two yellow cards, the second of which was somewhat unusual.
The final blow came at the last minute when the referee extended extra time for a few seconds, during which Ahmed Reda managed to equalize.
It’s worth noting that the difference between Pyramids and Al Ahly after this draw is only 4 points, unless the decision to deduct 3 points from Al Ahly for withdrawing against Zamalek is implemented, in which case the difference will become 7 points for the Blues.
