Why did Mohamed Salah cry after the Liverpool vs. Bournemouth match?

Camera cameras captured Mohamed Salah crying after the final whistle of Liverpool’s match against Bournemouth in the Premier League opener.

Salah scored a goal in Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield, kicking off Arne Slot’s Premier League title defense.

After the match, as usual, Salah headed to the stands to greet the fans, who were chanting Diogo Jota’s name again.

Salah couldn’t contain himself, shedding tears of grief over Jota’s passing and being moved by the situation as a whole.

Liverpool fans had also honored Jota before the match with a large tifo bearing his name and that of his brother, Andre Silva, after they died in a car accident last June.

Salah cut short his vacation and returned to England from Greece. According to media reports, he was deeply affected by the loss of the Portuguese star, as were all Liverpool players.

Reds fans are expected to continue to commemorate Jota before and after every match, while Liverpool players will continue to remember him by celebrating with the number 20, as Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo did after their goals against Bournemouth.
