AS newspaper reported that Real Madrid’s new captain for next season has been determined in light of rumors about the departure of current captain Nacho Fernandez.
The Spanish media had indicated that Nacho had already informed the Royal Club management of his departure at the end of his contract next summer.
According to the latest report, the selection of the new Real Madrid captain will be based on the rule of the oldest player on the list, and not the usual way in Europe of the players themselves choosing who to lead them.
Thus, Fede Valverde will be the new captain as he is the oldest and has played at the Santiago Bernabeu since joining from Penarol in 2016, and arriving to the first team in 2018.
The 25-year-old became very happy when he learned this, and is very motivated to enter a historic list that includes Real Madrid legends, the most recent of whom are Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Marcelo.
Valverde has a strong personality, as well as being very popular within the Royal Club’s locker rooms, and so it seems that all parties will benefit from his installation as a new leader in the Spanish capital.
