The transfer of Álvaro Carreras from Benfica to Real Madrid is still pending, and A Bola has revealed the secret behind it.
Real Madrid reached an agreement with Carreras last May, but has so far been unable to agree on a fee with Benfica.
The Spanish international has a €50 million release clause in his contract, and Benfica refuses to let him leave for less.
According to A Bola, a €5 million difference is currently holding up Carreras’s move to Real Madrid.
Florentino Pérez’s administration wants to pay only €45 million, with another €5 million in variables, while Benfica is insisting on the full amount.
However, there is great optimism that the two clubs will reach common ground in the coming days, especially since Carreras is committed to moving to Real Madrid and no other club.
Carreras is currently participating with Benfica in the Club World Cup, and once the Portuguese club concludes its participation in the competition, he is expected to finalize the agreement with Real Madrid and the deal will be officially completed.
