Recent reports have been circulating about Barcelona’s interest in signing the duo of Alessandro Bastoni, the Inter Milan star, and Alejandro Grimaldo, the Bayer Leverkusen star, to bolster their central defense and left-back positions in the upcoming summer transfer window.
A clear crisis has emerged at left-back at Barcelona, with only Alejandro Balde available, and Hector Fort and Gerard Martin failing to provide support. Consequently, sporting director Deco is keen to sign a new summer signing to fill the gap.
Bastoni would be an ideal choice, as the player has performed admirably for Inter in recent years at center-back and can be relied upon as a full-back, thus potentially compensating for the potential departure of Ronald Araujo.
At the same time, Grimaldo dreams of returning to Barcelona again, and he wouldn’t cost the Blaugrana much. Given his performances with Bayer Leverkusen over the past three years, he appears capable of making a difference and competing with Balde.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the frequent reports of Barcelona’s interest in signing Bastoni and Grimaldo are unfounded.
Currently, Barcelona’s management is focusing on other options to strengthen its squad, including a new left winger and right back. Deco is also waiting for a decision on the fate of several players on Hansi Flick’s squad to be made before taking the necessary steps to replace those departing.
It should be noted that Barcelona needs to sell a number of players first to make summer signings due to Financial Fair Play regulations. The likely departures include Ronald Araujo and Ansu Fati.
