Mohamed Salah made his return to action for Liverpool after being left out of the squad for four consecutive matches by manager Arne Slott.
The “Egyptian King” was on the bench against Brighton on Saturday following what was described as a temporary reconciliation between him and Slott after a meeting between the two on Friday.
After 26 minutes, Joe Gomez suffered an injury, prompting Slott to bring on Salah in his place.
The 33-year-old received a hero’s welcome from the Anfield crowd, who applauded him until he entered the pitch and reacted to every touch he made, singing his famous chant, “Mo Salah, the Egyptian King.”
Salah made his mark on the game, setting up Hugo Ekiteke’s second goal in the 60th minute with a superb corner kick.
Thanks to this crucial assist, Salah made Premier League history as the player with the most goal contributions for a single club, breaking the previous record held by Wayne Rooney with Manchester United.
Salah’s total goal contributions for Liverpool in the Premier League now stand at 277, comprising 188 goals and 89 assists in 302 appearances.
Overall, Salah is the third-highest goal contributor in Premier League history (since its rebranding in 1992), behind only Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney.
Salah will now travel to Morocco to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations with the Egyptian national team, after which he will return for a crucial meeting with Liverpool’s management regarding his future.
