Saudi media reports indicate that Walid Regragui, the current coach of the Moroccan national team, is nearing the end of his tenure with the Atlas Lions, amidst ongoing negotiations with a major Saudi club.
Rumors continue to swirl around Regragui’s future, the latest suggesting that Mohamed Wahabi, who led Morocco’s U-20 team to victory in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, will soon succeed him. This prompted the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to issue an official statement denying the claim.
According to the Saudi newspaper Al-Wiam, Regragui will inevitably leave Morocco and will not be coaching his country at the 2026 World Cup. It is only a matter of time before an official announcement is made.
Regragui will not remain at home for long after leaving Morocco, as serious negotiations are underway and at an advanced stage between him and Al-Ittihad Club.
The Saudi giant’s management is dissatisfied with Sergio Conceição’s management of the team and seeks to dismiss him at the end of the current season, or perhaps even sooner if he fails to achieve a deep run in the AFC Champions League.
Regragui welcomes the move to Saudi Arabia and his second experience in the Gulf, and the agreement between the two parties will not be complicated, especially with the huge salary that the 50-year-old will receive.
