Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has urged the club’s management to make another move this summer and sign a new striker.
The Dutch international’s comments came in the wake of the Reds’ Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace, which followed a 2-2 draw in regulation time and a penalty shootout defeat at Wembley Stadium.
Van Dijk told the media, “We lost Darwin Nunez, who moved to the Saudi League, and Luis Diaz, who moved to Bayern Munich.”
He added, “I think there’s always room to bring in a new striker to strengthen the squad, so we’ll see what the transfer window brings in terms of the team’s balance.”
Liverpool is currently working to meet Van Dijk’s request, intensifying negotiations with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, in what would be the largest deal in Premier League history.
Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for €95 million, and despite the French star’s strong performance against Crystal Palace, including a goal, he alone will not be enough to lead Arne Slot’s attack next season.
