Barcelona winger Raphinha has reportedly been facing severe financial difficulties in recent months, prompting his decision to leave FC Barcelona for Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, according to former Brazil midfielder Vampeta.
While Raphinha’s current contract with Barcelona runs for two more years, an early departure this summer seems highly possible. The player reportedly hopes to recover his economic losses by earning a lucrative salary in Saudi Arabia.
“Raphinha is dealing with a serious family issue alongside significant financial struggles,” said Vampeta, who earned 39 caps for the Brazil national team between 1998 and 2002. “He is trying to adapt to this situation, and I pray to God that his move to Al-Hilal goes smoothly.”
Vampeta added: “It is a family matter, and Raphinha is confident that moving to Al-Hilal will help him turn things around for the better.”
Following these explosive remarks, sports analysts quickly suggested that Barcelona’s recent €80 million pursuit of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon was originally intended to cover Raphinha’s departure, rather than serving as a replacement for Marcus Rashford, who returned to Manchester United.
However, Raphinha’s cousin swiftly denied these rumors, telling Spanish newspaper Marca: “Vampeta needs to explain these lies.”
Raphinha is currently with the Seleção at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, he is currently sidelined with a muscle injury that will keep him out of action until the Round of 16, which kicks off on July 3rd.
