UEFA Saves Barcelona: Champions League at Camp Nou Despite PSG Crisis!

RAC1 reported that UEFA has given preliminary approval to Barcelona’s request to play their Champions League matches at Camp Nou, despite the possibility that the Paris Saint-Germain match will not be held at the Blaugrana’s historic home.

Barcelona is currently racing against time to obtain the necessary permits to host the La Liga match against Valencia on September 14. However, it is unlikely that the club will meet the deadline, so the club is making the necessary modifications to the Johan Cruyff Stadium to host the match.

Catalan newspapers indicated that Barcelona is facing another serious crisis: the Paris Saint-Germain match (October 1) will likely not be held at Camp Nou due to the licensing crisis. UEFA always stipulates that all league matches be played at the same stadium for each team.

However, Barça officials have been in contact with UEFA in the past few hours, and initially, the European body assured the Blaugrana management that an exception may be granted, allowing the team to play the PSG match at another stadium and then return to Camp Nou for the remaining matches.

UEFA deemed Barcelona to be experiencing force majeure, so the exception was made. The PSG match is now expected to be played at Montjuïc Stadium, where the Catalans have played their matches for the past two seasons.

Starting with the Olympiacos match on October 21, all of Barça’s home Champions League matches are expected to be played at Camp Nou. UEFA will not grant another exception if the club fails to obtain the necessary permits by that date.
