The Tunisian national team settled for a 1-1 draw against Tanzania at the Olympic Stadium, in their final match of Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tunisia began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Uganda, followed by a 3-2 loss to Nigeria, and finally this draw with Tanzania.
This draw secured the Carthage Eagles’ qualification for the Round of 16 of the tournament being held in Morocco, finishing second in the group behind Nigeria, who achieved a perfect record of 9 points from 3 matches.
Thus, coach Sami Trabelsi’s team will face a challenging encounter with Mali in the Round of 16 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca next Saturday.
Mali qualified from second place in Group A with three draws against Zambia, Morocco, and Comoros respectively, and boasts one of the most promising African teams, which suggests that Tunisia faces a very difficult task.
If Tunisia manages to overcome Mali, an even tougher challenge awaits them against the winner of the match between Senegal or Congo and Sudan or Burkina Faso.
Tunisia’s path to the semi-finals will most likely include a match against Egypt, Cameroon, or Ivory Coast.
