England manager Thomas Tuchel expressed his dissatisfaction with the England fans who filled Wembley Stadium during the Three Lions’ match in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The England team achieved a resounding 3-0 victory, and Tuchel believes the fans did not provide the players with the support they needed despite their impressive performance. He called for this to be avoided in the remaining qualifiers.
“We quickly went 3-0 up, and we could have scored a fourth and fifth. Unfortunately, when we didn’t score, the stadium went quiet, even though the players did their best to get more support from the fans,” Tuchel said after the match.
He added, “I understand it was difficult for us to perform the same way in the second half after such a quiet period on the pitch, but we performed brilliantly. We deserved to win, and this is the next step in the right direction.”
He continued, “I was expecting more support from the fans at Wembley Stadium. If you can score more in 20 minutes, three goals, and the way we started, we attacked Wales and didn’t let them escape, even in their own half, and we passed the ball after ball.”
He concluded, “After half an hour, we only heard the Welsh fans, and that was a bit sad, because I think the team deserved a lot of support today.”
Tuchel is not the first England coach to criticize the way England fans support the team; this problem has been common for decades, but such statements put the German coach under heavy attack from the fans as well, and some consider them an unnecessary belittlement.
