Brazilian media outlets have reported that Al Ahly is interested in signing former Tottenham star Lucas Moura during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 33-year-old Moura currently plays for São Paulo and is entering the final six months of his contract. It is said that he has begun searching for a new club, and Al Ahly has emerged as a potential option.
The sole source of this news was the renowned Brazilian journalist Ramoni Arteco, who indicated that the player would also welcome a move to the Egyptian giants if offered a substantial salary.
Al Ahly denies negotiations with Lucas Moura
Through the website FilGoal, Al Ahly completely denied the rumors circulating about negotiations to sign Lucas Moura this summer.
The source stated, “The Brazilian journalist who published the news about Al Ahly’s interest in signing Lucas Moura is a liar, a liar, a liar.”
From a technical standpoint, it seems that Moura is not needed by Al Ahly, who already have five or six players in the winger position and do not want to sign another star to add to their roster.
Meanwhile, it’s unlikely Al Ahly can afford Moura’s hefty salary, which exceeds $5 million, given the overall financial situation in Egyptian football.

Lucas Moura’s agent denies contact with Al Ahly.
Lucas Moura’s agent, Junior Pedroso, also denied the circulating reports of negotiations with Al Ahly.
The agent told Egyptian media, “No one from Al Ahly has spoken to me, so I can’t consider there to be any kind of interest.”
Thus, it’s certain from all sides that Al Ahly hasn’t even attempted to sign Moura, who previously played for Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham in Europe.
Lucas Moura’s distinguished career
Born in 1992 in São Paulo, Lucas Moura made his European debut in 2013 when Paris Saint-Germain acquired him for €40 million.
After five successful years in the French capital, Moura moved to the English Premier League, joining Tottenham Hotspur from 2018 until the end of his contract in 2023, returning to São Paulo.
Internationally, Moura has 37 caps for Brazil, but has yet to represent the Seleção in a World Cup. He has scored four goals and six more in friendly matches.
This season, he has made 16 appearances for São Paulo across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He is currently sidelined with a broken rib, which will keep him out of action until the end of April.

Al-Ahly seeks to sign a new striker
Following one of the worst seasons in Al-Ahly’s history, Mahmoud El-Khatib’s administration will focus on strengthening the center-forward position this summer rather than signing a new winger.
Al-Ahly has clearly struggled since losing Wissam Abou Ali to Columbus Crew in the United States last summer, and the Red Devils have yet to find a replacement. Al Ahly attempted to bolster their squad by signing Angolan striker Camões last winter, but the player failed to make an impact and is considered one of the Egyptian club’s worst signings in its history.

Generally speaking, Al Ahly is undergoing a major administrative overhaul. Mahmoud El Khatib entrusted the management of football affairs to his deputy, Yassin Mansour, and club legend Sayed Abdel-Hafiz following the team’s disappointing season.
Al Ahly currently sits third in the Egyptian Premier League, three points behind joint leaders Zamalek and Pyramids. They were also eliminated early from the Egypt Cup and recently exited the CAF Champions League in the quarterfinals at the hands of Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
