Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah following the 23-year-old England international’s rapid development since departing Liverpool.
According to Sport Bild, the Spanish giants are closely monitoring Quansah, valuing his versatility across central defense and right-back, as he remains under contract with the German side until 2030.
Real Madrid face stiff competition for his signature. Arsenal attempted to secure the defender last summer with an offer reportedly valued around €65 million, which Leverkusen rejected, while Chelsea have also expressed concrete interest in the deal.
Liverpool, however, retain significant leverage over Quansah’s long-term destination. Reports indicate the Merseyside club hold a buy-back clause set at approximately €70 million that becomes active in 2027, following his departure to Germany.
The defender joined Leverkusen in 2025 for €35 million and quickly established himself as a core starter, seamlessly operating at center-back and right-back for both his club and the England national team.
Having joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of five, Quansah progressed to the first team before opting for a move to the Bundesliga in pursuit of regular playing time—a decision that accelerated his international breakthrough and inclusion in England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
While Real Madrid’s interest currently remains at the serious observation stage, the presence of multiple Premier League suitors alongside Liverpool’s potential buy-back option could turn the summer of 2027 into a high-stakes bidding war.
