Trabzonspor have ended their relationship with head coach Fatih Tekke following a 2-1 defeat to Amedspor in the third round of the Turkish Süper Lig, after a meeting between both parties concluded with a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The departure comes just days after Tekke submitted his resignation following a 4-0 thrashing by Hungary’s Ferencváros and subsequent elimination from the UEFA Europa League. At the time, the club’s board rejected his resignation, convincing him to stay and lead the team against Amedspor.
The manager returned to work, pledging to fight on and take responsibility, but the subsequent league defeat prompted both sides to re-evaluate the team’s trajectory before agreeing to part ways in line with the club’s objectives.
Tekke took charge in March 2025 succeeding Şenol Güneş, with Trabzonspor sitting 11th in the table. He guided the club to a 7th-place finish in the 2024–2025 season and reached the Turkish Cup final before falling to Galatasaray.
The following season marked Tekke’s most successful period, as Trabzonspor finished third in the Süper Lig with 69 points and lifted the 2025–2026 Turkish Cup—his sole trophy during his tenure.
Over his spell with the Black Sea club, Tekke managed 62 official matches, registering 35 wins, 14 draws, and 13 losses, maintaining a win rate above 56%. However, a poor start to the new campaign, yielding just one victory in five competitive matches, brought his tenure to an end.
Several potential successors have begun circulating, with Antonio Conte prominently mentioned alongside Abdullah Avcı, Steven Gerrard, Sérgio Conceição, and Thiago Motta, though no official negotiations have been confirmed yet.
