A group of Tottenham female fans have called for former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi not to be appointed as Spurs’ manager due to his support for Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood, 24, left Manchester United in 2013 after charges against him, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped.
De Zerbi, whose name has been mentioned as a possible replacement for the under-pressure interim manager Igor Tudor, signed the former England striker during his time at the French club.
Last November, De Zerbi described Greenwood as a “good person” who had “paid a heavy price.” The group Women of the Lane said De Zerbi’s comments raise “serious questions about wisdom and leadership.”
The group, which aims to combat sexism and misogyny in football, added: “This is not the appointment Tottenham Hotspur should be making.”
Tottenham have only managed one point in five Premier League games under Tudor and sit just one point above the relegation zone.
Italian De Zerbi, who left Marseille in February, has been linked with the job either this season or next summer. He enjoyed two successful seasons at Brighton, guiding them to European competition before leaving for Marseille in 2024.
