Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos suggested that Carlo Ancelotti’s failure to enforce discipline within the club was a key factor in the club’s last season.
The German football legend made no secret of his admiration for Hansi Flick’s work at Barcelona, citing his work and comparing it to how things were during Ancelotti’s tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Kroos told the media, “Flick has dropped more than one player for being late to class. It’s happened more than once this season at Barcelona.”
He added, “The truth is, if the same thing (punishing players for being late) had happened at Real Madrid, you would have seen everyone at the club laughing.”
He continued, “There are many times when you can’t even count the late players. Even the coach was late.”
He concluded, “I realize that they are different coaching philosophies, and I find both successful in one way or another, but I can say that Flick’s philosophy is very traditional and strict.”
In his first season with Barcelona, Flick led the Catalans to a domestic treble, defeating Real Madrid in El Clásico four times in three different competitions.
