Despite the overcrowding of the left winger position at Real Madrid, club officials are considering a new deal to bolster coach Xabi Alonso’s squad next summer.
As newspaper reported that Real Madrid’s management is considering signing Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams. Although the matter was merely an idea in recent weeks, it is now more serious than ever.
Florentino Pérez’s administration is considering signing a Spanish player who can compete with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal and steal the spotlight from him. This is in addition to denying the Catalan club the opportunity to sign Williams, even though president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the player is no longer in the Blaugrana’s plans.
A deal for Williams would not be expensive or burdensome for Real Madrid; the club would only have to pay his release clause, which amounts to €58 million.
Williams’ position on a move to Real Madrid remains unknown, especially since he is not guaranteed a starting spot and knows he will have to make a tremendous effort to take over from Vinicius Junior in particular.
Previously, Spanish media reported that Kylian Mbappé was angry about not playing on the left wing, raising questions about signing a third winger, which would exacerbate the dilemma at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It should be noted that Neco Williams has attracted the attention of several major European clubs. Liverpool was the latest to claim him, while Arsenal has been the most serious about negotiations with the Basque player since last January.
