The Saudi Arabian Football Federation officially announced that Hervé Renard will remain as the national team coach and will lead the Green Falcons in the 2026 World Cup.
Saudi newspapers had previously indicated that Renard’s dismissal was imminent following the Saudi team’s poor performance in the 2025 Arab Cup, which raised concerns among fans ahead of the 2020 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ultimately, after a thorough review of the situation by Saudi Federation officials, it was decided to retain Renard until the end of his contract, which extends to the 2027 Asian Cup, according to a statement from the Media and Communications Department.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation aims to maintain technical stability and build upon the achievements of the previous phase. Therefore, they renewed their confidence in Hervé Renard to continue what he started upon his return to coach the national team in 2024.
Renard led Saudi Arabia in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Green Falcons defeated Argentina 2-1 in their opening match before being eliminated in the group stage following defeats to Poland and Mexico.
The 2026 World Cup draw placed Saudi Arabia in a group with European champions Spain, a star-studded Uruguayan team, and Cape Verde, who will be making their World Cup debut.
