The nature of Messi’s injury and the length of his absence have been revealed.

Lionel Messi suffered what appeared to be a serious injury during his participation with Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup match against Necaxa. This caused concern among American fans and Messi supporters, especially since initial indications regarding the length of his absence were not reassuring.

Just 11 minutes later, Messi left the match against Necaxa after suffering a muscle injury. Inter Miami won on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano revealed the nature of Messi’s injury after the match, saying, “He felt pain in his hamstring muscles, but we won’t be able to determine the extent and severity of the injury until we undergo comprehensive examinations.”

He added, “He’s definitely suffering from something. It may not be serious because he wasn’t in significant pain, but he did feel pain.”

ESPN reported that Messi’s initial absence from the field will be up to a month, and could be longer if the injury is more serious than initially diagnosed. The 37-year-old could also return earlier, depending on his recovery and the treatment plan.

Messi will therefore miss Inter Miami’s matches against Orlando City, Los Angeles Galaxy, D.C. United, and Chicago Fire, and he will likely miss the upcoming international break as well.

It’s worth noting that in his last appearance before the injury, Messi contributed to Inter Miami’s victory over Atlas, assisting two goals. Overall, he has participated in 24 matches in all competitions this season, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists.
