The Long-Awaited Deal: Isak Joins Liverpool for the Most Expensive Transfer in Premier League History

Liverpool have finally completed the signing of Newcastle star Alexander Isak, after the Reds reached an agreement with the Magpies early Monday morning.

Isak had openly declared his desire to leave Newcastle, even threatening that if he was forced to stay, he would never play for St. James’ Park again.

Liverpool made an official £110 million bid to sign the Magpies about a month ago, but the English club rejected it as less than expected.

On the final day of the summer transfer window, Liverpool moved again, raising its offer, according to the Daily Mail, to £125 million as a fixed price, with an additional £5 million in easily achievable add-ons.

English media outlets are unanimously convinced that Newcastle have finally accepted the offer, and Isak is currently on his way to Liverpool to undergo a medical and then officially sign for Arne Slot’s side.

Isak will become the most expensive transfer in Premier League history (£130 million) and the third-largest in football history after Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain (€222 million) and Kylian Mbappé to Paris Saint-Germain (€180 million).

Newcastle United signed German midfielder Nick Woltemade for €90 million to replace Isak and are close to signing Yoann Wissa from Brentford to complete the Swedish star’s replacement.
