Messi is now within striking distance of Cristiano Ronaldo as the all-time top scorer in the Club World Cup.
The Don has participated in four editions of the competition, once with Manchester United and three with Real Madrid, scoring seven goals.
With Messi’s goal in his fourth World Cup appearance, he has now scored six goals, putting him just one goal away from breaking Ronaldo’s record, which has stood since 2017.
The 36-year-old will have a chance to equal or surpass Ronaldo if he scores against Palmeiras next week.
Over the course of his six previous World Cup appearances, Messi has scored or assisted at least once, except against Al Ahly in the opening match of the 2025 tournament.

La Pulga has reached 50 goals in 61 appearances for the American club in all competitions.
Only Luis Suarez is close behind Messi, but the Uruguayan international has scored only 33 goals.
It’s worth noting that Messi led Inter Miami to their first title in their history, winning the Leagues Cup last season.
