The latest reports in Italy indicate that Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni’s move to Barcelona is becoming increasingly likely.
Until last month, it seemed Bastoni was on the verge of signing a new contract in Milan, but a change in Inter’s management approach means they will now listen to offers for him.
It was reported last week that a sum close to €70 million might be enough to convince them to part with Bastoni, who has two years remaining on his contract with Inter this summer. His reported wage demands are €5 million net per year (equivalent to €10 million in Spain).
In recent hours, Italian media outlets have indicated that Inter has lowered its demands and may be willing to complete the deal for a minimum fixed fee of €50 million, with some additional conditions.
The Nerazzurri are planning to rebuild their squad this summer, and Bastoni is considered surplus to requirements and a good way to raise funds.
Barcelona’s interest in the player is not new, with journalist Mateo Moretto explaining that Bastoni would be keen to join the Catalan club. He is also sporting director Deco’s preferred choice, but it remains unclear whether the club will spend a significant sum on a defender; their priority remains signing a striker.
With Inter Milan lowering their demands, the deal has become more financially feasible, and consequently, Barcelona might be tempted by the opportunity to make their first major investment in their defense since signing Jules Koundé.
