The English media has agreed that Alexander Isak will eventually arrive at Liverpool, and perhaps the so-called “domino effect” is the key to completing the biggest deal in Premier League history.
According to recent reports, Newcastle understands Isak’s desire to leave and will not stand in his way. However, the English club is refusing to complete the deal with Liverpool until it signs a replacement striker for the Swedish international. This prevents it from being subject to bids from other clubs after receiving £110 million from the sale of the 26-year-old to Old Trafford.
This is exactly the position Brentford is taking with its star player Yoann Wissa, who is Newcastle’s top target this summer to succeed Isak. The London club is ready to sell, but has not yet decided on a successor for the Congolese international. Once that happens, the door will be open for him to move to St. James’ Park without any problems.
The 28-year-old Wissa has been absent from Brentford training to pressure the club to accept an immediate move to Newcastle, given his dream of playing in the Champions League. He believes he has a good chance of shining with the Magpies after Isak’s departure.
Brentford is expected to find the ideal replacement for Wissa in the coming days. After agreeing with him and his club, Newcastle’s offer of over £60 million will be accepted. Isak, meanwhile, will also move to Liverpool.
Newcastle had been targeting Benjamin Sesko, but Leipzig are demanding more than €75 million to complete the deal, removing the Slovenian international from the Magpies’ plans and making him more likely to join Manchester United.
In any case, Isak will end up at Liverpool, and the deal is expected to be worth over £150 million, including add-ons, making it the most expensive transfer in Premier League history, surpassing Florian Wirtz’s transfer to the Reds this summer, which cost the English club over £130 million.
