What has been happening to Real Madrid over the past week can only be described as the “curse of injuries.”
It all began with the announcement that Eduardo Camavinga would be sidelined until August after suffering a complete tear in his left adductor muscle.
After El Clásico, it was announced that Antonio Rüdiger would undergo surgery to repair a partial tear in the external meniscus of his left leg.
On the same day, Ferland Mendy was diagnosed with a tear in the proximal tendon of the anterior rectus muscle in his right thigh.
Mendy will be out for at least two and a half months.
Last day, Real Madrid announced in an official statement that David Alaba had suffered a new injury.
The Austrian international suffered a tear in the internal meniscus in his left knee and will undergo urgent surgery.
Alaba will be out for six to eight weeks.
This means Real Madrid only has Raúl Asensio and Jesús Vallejo at the heart of their defense, or the ability to rely on Aurelien Tchouameni when needed in the remaining matches of the season.
Alaba and Rudiger have a slim chance of qualifying for the Club World Cup, while Mendy and Camavinga will miss the competition, which begins in mid-June.
Real Madrid is already suffering from injuries to Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, who have been sidelined since the start of the season with cruciate ligament tears. Both players are working to recover in the hope of qualifying for the Club World Cup.
