Marc-André ter Stegen has rejected all offers he has received recently to leave Barcelona in the winter transfer window, and it seems likely he will remain with Barça even if it means jeopardizing his dream of playing for Germany in the 2026 World Cup.
This is according to the newspaper “Sport,” which indicated that there is a glimmer of hope in convincing the German goalkeeper to leave Camp Nou on loan, namely, a specific English club making a move for him.
So far, Ter Stegen has received offers from Beşiktaş of Turkey, Bologna of Italy, and Ajax of the Netherlands. However, none of these offers were able to meet his financial demands, and he wants to play for clubs that compete for titles in the top five European leagues.
There were some inquiries from Manchester United, but they did not progress to a formal offer. The only remaining hope for Ter Stegen’s departure is if Tottenham’s interest in him in recent weeks develops into a genuine desire from the English club’s management to sign him.
Tottenham are facing a clear goalkeeping crisis due to Vicario’s repeated errors. The Italian’s future with Spurs is highly uncertain, and it’s highly likely that if he doesn’t leave in the winter transfer window, he will depart at the latest in the summer, potentially returning to Serie A with Inter Milan.
Tottenham’s management remains undecided on whether to support Vicario until the end of the season or pursue a move for Ter Stegen, especially given the German’s high salary. In the latter case, Barcelona would have to contribute significantly to the transfer fee.
Sport reports that if Tottenham don’t make a serious move, or if Ter Stegen doesn’t receive a compelling European offer, the goalkeeper will likely remain at Barcelona and simply hope to get a chance from Hansi Flick, even though the manager currently considers him the third-choice goalkeeper.
It should be noted that Ter Stegen has recovered and appeared in the squad for Osasuna’s last La Liga match, but Flick has clearly stated that Juan Garcia will be his team’s starting goalkeeper this season, while it is said that the German has decided that Szczesny will also be the backup, in a clear message to his compatriot that he must leave and that he has no chance under his management.
