Erik ten Hag’s return to coaching seems closer than ever, after a major European club entered negotiations with him to secure his services.
Ten Hag began this season as manager of Bayer Leverkusen but was sacked after the first three Bundesliga matches following a winless streak and a loss of confidence from both the players and management.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ajax hopes to bring ten Hag back to lead the Dutch giants after the dismissal of John Heitinga.
Ajax announced the termination of Heitinga’s tenure after less than six months in charge, following a significant decline in results, with the team winning only one of their last seven matches.
Contact has already been established between Ajax and ten Hag, and the two parties are expected to meet in the coming days to discuss the offer made to the former Manchester United manager in detail.
The 55-year-old Ten Hag is expected to welcome a return to Ajax, especially as it would be a good opportunity for him to return to the spotlight and respond to the harsh criticism he has faced over the past two years.
Ten Hag’s name has also been linked to the Wolverhampton Wanderers job, currently bottom of the Premier League, but the Wolves have other preferred options.
Ten Hag managed Ajax from 2017 to 2022, leading the team to the Champions League semi-finals and winning three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups, and one DNVB Super Cup.
