Discussions about holding the Barcelona vs. Villarreal match in Miami have escalated, leading to a heated exchange between La Liga president Javier Tebas and Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal.
Carvajal addressed the Spanish media regarding the situation, saying, “Holding the match in America seems to me like a clear distortion of the competition. This way, we’re not all competing under the same conditions. This decision doesn’t do justice at all.”
The situation didn’t go unnoticed by Tebas, who responded with a fiery statement, saying, “First of all, I don’t think the competition is being distorted. It’s an exaggerated view.”
He added, “What I can consider to be truly distorting La Liga is Real Madrid TV and the videos it broadcast last season to pressure referees.”
The matter didn’t stop there, as Carvajal responded again via his Instagram account, writing, “You can say what you want about Real Madrid TV’s clips, but you can’t ignore that what was mentioned violates the rules.”
He concluded, “Breaking the rules is a spoiler of the competition. Your tournament will be tarnished if the match is held in the United States.”
Real Madrid moved to prevent the match from being held in the United States, appealing the Spanish Administrative Court’s decision to the Supreme Sports Council and contacting CONCACAF to intervene.
