English press reports indicate that Liverpool has identified Al-Ittihad star Moussa Diaby as their top choice to replace Mohamed Salah, whose departure from the Reds is expected at the end of the current season.
Currently, it appears the “Egyptian King” will leave Anfield in the summer of 2026, rather than waiting until 2027, amidst significant interest from Saudi clubs.
Liverpool is working to find a successor for Salah, and it seems the Reds’ management has settled on Diaby, especially given his experience in Europe’s top five leagues.
Diaby was close to returning to Europe last January after an offer from Inter Milan, but Al-Ittihad held onto him and postponed the move until next summer. This time, the Saudi officials are unlikely to convince him to stay.
According to recent reports, Liverpool has already contacted Diaby’s agent to explore the possibility of completing the deal, with the player reportedly receptive to the move, and other European clubs also showing interest.
Three English clubs – Tottenham, Newcastle, and Chelsea – are monitoring Diaby, while Borussia Dortmund in Germany are hoping to bring the 26-year-old back to the Bundesliga.
The French international’s contract with Al-Ittihad runs until the summer of 2029, and the Saudi club is not expected to accept a sale for less than €40 million.
The player has scored 8 goals and provided 29 assists in 61 appearances for Al-Ittihad across all competitions.
