Surprise: Salah Will Not Be Liverpool’s Second Captain!

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has announced the hierarchy of his team’s captains for the season, leaving what could be seen as a surprise for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.

Virgil van Dijk remains Liverpool’s first captain. Last season, Trent Alexander-Arnold was his deputy. With the right-back’s move to Real Madrid, the Reds have begun working to appoint a successor to the team’s leadership council.

Mohamed Salah was expected to be installed as Van Dijk’s deputy, given his significant influence at Anfield.

Ultimately, Slot announced that left-back Andy Robertson would be Van Dijk’s deputy, with Salah as the third captain.

The Dutchman explained the decision by saying, “He played here for many years and won the league twice. Virgil, Trent, Robbo, and Mohamed Salah were the ones chosen last season. Trent left, so there are many logical reasons for this decision.”

He added, “Alongside all the quality he demonstrates on the pitch, he also plays a significant role in the culture of this club. As I stated repeatedly last season, this is the greatest gift I could receive from Klopp.”

Robertson has been with Liverpool since the summer of 2017, when he joined the Reds from Hull City for €9 million, and has achieved numerous collective and individual achievements over the years.
