Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has decided to take full control of his health and will not allow the club’s medical and coaching staff to return him to the pitch before he is fully recovered.
The French international has been suffering from a knee ligament injury since last December, but has been forced to play through the pain in many of Real Madrid’s matches recently.
Mbappé suffered a significant setback before last week’s match against Benfica, which angered the player, who felt the medical staff were not giving him the necessary advice and were putting unnecessary pressure on him.
According to the newspaper AS, Mbappé has decided to be solely responsible for determining his recovery schedule and return date, and that he will not play again until he feels 100% ready.
Mbappé is reportedly furious with coach Álvaro Arbeloa, believing that Arbeloa pressured him to play over the past month, which ultimately exacerbated the injury.
Mbappé is currently aiming to return before the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Manchester City on March 17th. However, he also has no intention of pushing himself or rushing his return, regardless of the consequences.
Mbappé hopes to overcome his injury and then finish the season at full strength with Real Madrid and participate in the 2026 World Cup. His current situation doesn’t reassure him much, so he’s trying to remain calm and patient before returning to training and matches, following his own instincts rather than the instructions of the medical staff or Arbeloa.
