Hakim Ziyech, the former Ajax and Chelsea star, will join Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca on a free transfer, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Ziyech terminated his contract with Al-Duhail at the end of last season, but did not join any other club despite numerous offers over the summer, both in Europe and Saudi Arabia. He ultimately decided to return via Wydad Casablanca.
Negotiations between Ziyech and Wydad officials are in advanced stages, and the 32-year-old is expected to sign his transfer contract with the Casablanca-based club within the next few hours.
Reports indicate that the sports project led by Said Naciri and Said Ait Mena played a major role in Ziyech’s decision to return to the Moroccan league, a move that would mark a qualitative shift this season, given the player’s stature and impressive European career.
This will be Ziyech’s first experience in his home country, having started his career in the Netherlands with Heerenveen, before moving to Twente and then Ajax. This was his most successful experience ever, prompting Chelsea to pay €40 million to acquire him in 2020.
Ziyech’s move to Wydad aims to secure a starting spot, hoping to convince national coach Walid Regragui to include him in the Atlas Lions’ squad for the 2026 World Cup.
