In an extremely rare move, Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk is considering retiring from football and pursuing a different sport: a sprinter!
Mudryk is one of the most expensive players in football history. Chelsea paid nearly €100 million to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk. However, in recent months, he was subjected to a suspension after testing positive for doping.
Marca reported that the player currently wants to retire from football completely and aims to participate with the Ukrainian national athletics team in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He has already begun training with his teammates in this discipline.
The 24-year-old Modric wants to compete in sprints (100m and 200m), capitalizing on his remarkable speed, which has been demonstrated in football. His fastest run was 36.67 km/h, enough to compete with the world’s top sprinters.
Mudric’s contract with Chelsea still runs, so if he wants to retire and pursue sprinting, he must first terminate his contract with the Blues. His doping ban must also be taken into account, as well as his need to compete and succeed in international running events to qualify for the Olympics, if he so desires.
