Barcelona may witness a major change in the goalkeeping position, as Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalan club’s management is looking to sign a new goalkeeper during the current summer transfer window.
Barcelona already has Ter Stegen, who has returned from injury, along with Szczesny, who has yet to accept or reject a renewal offer, and the third goalkeeper confirmed to leave in the next transfer window, Iñaki Peña.
However, Joan Laporta’s administration believes in the need to sign a new goalkeeper to represent Ter Stegen’s permanent successor, but at the same time, this could mean the German international’s immediate departure from Camp Nou.
Barcelona Wants to Sign Joan Garcia
Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers of all time in La Liga this season, catching the attention of many major clubs around the world, most recently Barcelona, which now has him on its summer transfer list based on the personal opinion of coach Hansi Flick.

Ter Stegen’s primary goal is to be a starter at the 2026 World Cup with the German national team. To achieve this, he must secure Barcelona’s goal throughout the next season and perform convincingly.
However, if the Catalans sign the 22-year-old Garcia, competition for Ter Stegen will be fierce, and Flick may be tempted to rely on the younger goalkeeper at times, undermining the German goalkeeper’s chances of achieving his dream.
Thus, it is expected that the Garcia deal, if completed, will be the final straw that will lead to Ter Stegen’s departure to another club where he can guarantee consistent participation and prepare well for the World Cups in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
