The Sudanese national team failed to maintain their lead and suffered a 3-1 defeat to Senegal in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The match, played at the Grand Stade de Tanger, saw the Falcons of Jediane start perfectly, scoring the first goal in the sixth minute through Amir Abdallah Younes.
The Sudanese lead lasted until the 29th minute when Pape Gueye equalized, and then added a second goal in the final minute of the second half.
As Sudan searched for a comeback, Ibrahim Mbaye extinguished any hopes of a Senegalese comeback by scoring their third goal in the 77th minute.
With this result, Sudan’s Africa Cup of Nations adventure ends in the Round of 16. The Falcons of Jediane have won the title once before, and their best achievement in the last two decades was reaching the quarterfinals of the 2012 edition.
Senegal now advances to the quarterfinals and awaits the winner of the Tunisia-Mali match.
