The Sudanese national team achieved a valuable victory over Equatorial Guinea with a clean sheet in their second group stage match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Falcons of Jediane had opened their AFCON campaign with a 3-0 defeat against Algeria, a match in which Kwesi Appiah’s team played most of the time with ten men.
Against Equatorial Guinea, a header from one of Sudan’s strikers deflected off defender Saul Koko and into his own net, giving the Sudanese team the first goal in the 74th minute.

With this victory, Sudan raised its points tally to 3, temporarily equaling Algeria and Burkina Faso until their match at 7:30 PM Egypt time.
Practically speaking, this victory guarantees Sudan qualification for the round of 16 even if they lose in the final round against Burkina Faso, as the four best third-placed teams qualify for the round of 16, and currently the Falcons of Jediane are already among the best and the situation will likely continue this way.
