Bayern Munich began their Bundesliga title defence with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Stuttgart on Friday, extending their complete dominance over their opponents in recent meetings.
Dayot Upamecano opened the scoring in the 21st minute before Josha Vagnoman equalised for Stuttgart in the 52nd. Michael Olise restored Bayern’s lead three minutes later, Vagnoman scored an own goal in the 57th minute, Aleksandar Pavlović added the fourth in the 82nd, and Luis Díaz completed the rout late on.
Bayern have now won seven consecutive competitive matches against Stuttgart since October 2024, scoring 26 goals and conceding only five—a goal difference of 21.
The two teams have met five times in just over a year, with Bayern winning every game by scores of 2-1, 5-0, 4-2, 3-0 and 5-1. The Bavarians scored 19 goals and conceded four during that run, while also defeating Stuttgart to win both the German Super Cup and the DFB-Pokal.
Joshua Kimmich played a key role in the latest victory, providing the assists for Upamecano and Olise. He also controlled midfield and distributed the ball efficiently, starting the league campaign with two assists.
The match also marked Ismael Saibari’s first Bundesliga appearance for Bayern. The Moroccan immediately made his presence felt by setting up both Pavlović’s fourth goal and Díaz’s fifth, ending his league debut with two assists.
Vincent Kompany’s side collected their first three points of the season, while the result underlined Bayern’s sustained superiority over Stuttgart, who have lost four of their last five meetings with the champions by at least two goals.
Bayern will next visit Osnabrück on Wednesday in the first round of the DFB-Pokal before travelling to face Schalke on Saturday in their second Bundesliga fixture.
