Rafael Louzán, President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has confirmed the submission of documentation for Spain’s bid to host the final phase of the 2027 UEFA Nations League.
The official proposal designates the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid and the José Zorrilla Stadium in Valladolid as host venues, with Real Madrid’s home ground set to host the final should the bid be approved and Spain qualify for the final tournament.
The submission does not guarantee hosting rights at this stage, as UEFA traditionally selects the host country from among the four qualified semi-finalists following an evaluation of submitted bid dossiers.
The fifth edition of the Nations League features 54 participating nations distributed across four leagues (Leagues A, B, and C containing four groups each, alongside League D comprising two three-team groups), with the league phase taking place between September and November 2026.
The top two teams from each League A group will advance to a two-legged quarter-final stage in March 2027, with the four winning side progressing to the final tournament scheduled for June 9–13, 2027.
Portugal hosted the inaugural edition in 2019, claiming the title against the Netherlands at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto. Italy hosted the 2021 finals, where France defeated Spain at the San Siro in Milan.
The Netherlands organized the 2023 edition, which saw Spain overcome Croatia on penalties at De Kuip in Rotterdam, before Germany hosted the 2025 finals, where Portugal defeated Spain on penalties in Munich.
Portugal enter the 2027 cycle as defending champions and the first nation to win the tournament twice. Meanwhile, Spain have reached the last three consecutive finals, lifting the trophy in 2023 and finishing as runners-up in 2021 and 2025.
