Spain continued their flawless UEFA Nations League campaign by securing a third consecutive victory, defeating the Czech Republic 3–1 on Saturday evening at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere in Oviedo.
Luis de la Fuente’s side required just six minutes to break the deadlock. Receiving the ball on the right flank, Lamine Yamal unleashed a brilliant left-footed strike into the top corner past Czech goalkeeper Antonín Kinský.
Rodri doubled La Roja’s advantage in the 35th minute. The midfielder breached the Czech defense, played a crisp one-two with Pedri, and produced a delicate chipped finish over Kinský to send the hosts into the break with a comfortable two-goal cushion.
The dynamic shifted midway through the second half as Jiří Slama pulled one back for the visitors in the 69th minute, injecting tension into the closing stages. However, the Czech Republic’s momentum was halted in the 85th minute when Ladislav Krejčí was sent off following a second yellow card.
Spain made the numerical advantage count in the 89th minute when substitute Mikel Merino finished off a late attack to seal all three points. The underlying statistics underscored Spain’s dominance, as the hosts held 63% possession and generated 15 total shots (8 on target) compared to just 4 efforts from the Czech Republic.
The victory keeps Spain atop Group A3 with 9 points from three matches, having scored 10 goals while conceding 4 across wins over England (3–2), Croatia (4–1), and the Czech Republic (3–1). England sit second on 6 points, followed by Croatia on 3, while the Czechs remain bottom without a point.
Spain will conclude the current international break with an away fixture against Croatia in Split on Tuesday, October 6 (20:45 local time / 21:45 EEST). La Roja will enter the clash seeking a fourth straight win to move within touching distance of qualifying for the Nations League quarter-finals.
