The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Lozan, confirmed that his country will host the 2030 World Cup final, specifically after the unfortunate events that occurred during the Morocco-Senegal final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Spain, Morocco, and Portugal are scheduled to host the 2030 World Cup, with three additional matches to be held in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay to celebrate the World Cup’s centenary.
Morocco had been striving to host the final in the massive stadium currently under construction in Casablanca, which will accommodate 100,000 fans, while Spain had staked its claim on Real Madrid’s historic Santiago Bernabéu stadium to win the bid.
Lozan stated in a press conference, “The final will be held on Spanish soil because we want the event to be of the highest possible standard, befitting the significance of the World Cup in its centenary year.”
He added, “We witnessed scenes during the Africa Cup of Nations final that negatively impacted the image of football globally, which underscores the importance of being fully prepared for a World Cup of this magnitude.”
He concluded, “The 2030 World Cup is not just an ordinary tournament; it’s a celebration of 100 years since the World Cup’s inception, and we must all rise to the occasion.”
The matter is expected to be resolved ultimately by a decision from FIFA within a few months, amidst reports that Gianni Infantino prefers Spain to host the final, a preference that has intensified following the events at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
