The Athletic has blamed Real Madrid for the injury suffered by Rodrygo Goes, which will keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Rodrygo landed on his knee during Monday’s match against Getafe. After undergoing medical tests, he was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a meniscus tear in his right knee.
According to the latest report, Rodrygo had been suffering from a partial ACL tear since 2023, but Real Madrid’s medical staff refused to operate, opting instead for physiotherapy.
This decision made his knee more vulnerable to injury, and with his first awkward fall, the ACL tore completely.
Now, the 24-year-old has been ruled out of the 2026 World Cup with Brazil and will likely be out of action until the end of the year.
This season raises many questions about a similar situation for Kylian Mbappe, who also has knee problems, but does not intend to undergo surgery, and Real Madrid’s medical staff supports this option.
