Once again, Al-Ahly failed to achieve victory, settling for a disappointing 1-1 draw with Enppi at the Arab Contractors Stadium in the sixth round of the Egyptian League.
This was Emad El-Nahhas’ first match as interim coach after sacking coach Jose Rivero following the loss to Pyramids FC in the previous round.
Al-Ahly had high hopes that the technical change would lead to a return to winning ways, and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet scored the opening goal against Enppi with a brilliant header. However, the joy of the Nahhas team was short-lived.
In the second half, Ahmed El-Agouz equalized from a penalty kick, and Enppi almost snatched the points after Rafik Kabou scored another goal, but it was disallowed for offside.
In the first five rounds, Al Ahly won once against Pharco, drew three times against Modern Sport, Ghazl El Mahalla, and ENPPI, and lost once against Pyramids. This is one of the worst starts in the Red Castle’s history.
Al Ahly is now in a truly shocking position, sitting in 15th place with just six points, a full seven points behind leaders Zamalek.
