Although Liverpool were confident they would secure a deal for Alexander Isak from Newcastle, recent developments between the player and his club, according to The Telegraph, appear to be extremely shocking for the Reds’ management.
The Swedish international has not yet trained with the Newcastle squad and has repeatedly confirmed to the management his desire to leave. He chose Liverpool despite receiving a legendary Saudi offer.
However, The Telegraph revealed that Newcastle’s management clearly informed Isak in the final hours that he would not be leaving St. James’ Park this season, regardless of Liverpool’s offer.
Newcastle’s insistence on Isak’s continued presence comes after several attempts to find a suitable replacement for him. Benjamin Sisko preferred to join Manchester United, while Brentford refused to sell Yoann Wissa.
The Magpies’ management does not want to risk losing Isak without a replacement. With only 20 days remaining in the summer transfer window, the English club prefers to keep the 26-year-old, despite rejecting the latest extension offer last week.
Despite Newcastle’s stance, Isak has no intention of giving up and will continue to pressure his club to allow him to leave, knowing that Liverpool will not significantly increase their previous offer of £110 million, which Newcastle rejected.
