The repercussions of the stifling financial crisis at Zamalek continue, most recently with Juan Alvina Bezerra considering leaving the White Castle after not receiving his outstanding financial dues.
The Brazilian winger joined Zamalek in the final days of last summer’s transfer window and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his outstanding talent and on-field performances.
According to Egyptian media reports, Bezerra’s agent threatened Zamalek with terminating the player’s contract if he is not paid in full by mid-October.
The agent believes Bezerra has a good opportunity to reap the full benefits of his contract if he terminates his contract due to unpaid salaries (according to FIFA regulations). At the same time, the player has numerous offers from major clubs in the Arab region and beyond, so he will be a winner in any case.
To date, Zamalek has not even paid Bezerra the rent for his and his family’s residence in Cairo. This has prompted the landlord to repeatedly demand his overdue payments and threaten to evict him if the situation continues.
Despite pressure from his agent and the economic situation, Juan Bezerra himself prefers to stay with Zamalek and does not want to leave on principle. He remains passionate about the White Castle’s fans and emotionally attached to them.
While the player wants to stay, the continuation of the current situation and his failure to receive his dues could change things, especially since the player is expecting his first child and has numerous personal obligations. He cannot continue his life without receiving his regular salaries.
It’s worth noting that Zamalek bought Bezerra for $2 million, and the Egyptian club has yet to pay the overdue installments to Ukrainian club Oleksandria, threatening a major new FIFA lawsuit.
