The curtain has not yet fallen on the Dani Olmo registration crisis at Barcelona, and there are suspicions that the Catalan club could lose its star player at least until next January for administrative reasons.
Olmo joined Barcelona in the summer of 2024 from Leipzig and was registered as a replacement for the injured Andreas Christensen. In January, his case remained unresolved until the final days of the transfer window, when Barça narrowly succeeded in signing him.
La Liga filed a lawsuit against Olmo’s registration, deeming it invalid. The case is still pending before the courts.
Mundo Deportivo revealed that the final ruling in Olmo’s case will be made on September 1. If the ruling confirms La Liga’s allegations, Barcelona will be required to re-register Olmo.
Barça will need to remove Olmo from its roster and then find space to register him again before the transfer window closes on the morning of September 2nd, a mission that is practically impossible.
However, Joan Laporta’s administration hopes that the courts will rule in their favor, in which case the situation will remain as it is.
Another solution to the crisis is for Barcelona to reach the 1:1 rule before the beginning of September. Then, even if the court ruling goes against the Catalan club, Olmo will be registered again without any problems.
Barça is already struggling due to its failure to reach the 1:1 rule in registering its players. Szczesny, Gerard Martin, and Ronnie Bardez are still out of the first team due to a lack of space to register them with coach Hansi Flick’s squad.
