Real Madrid faces the risk of rematching Seville again, hours after the Royal Club achieved victory thanks to Luka Modric’s goal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The match witnessed an unusual incident. After referee Diaz de Mira came off injured, he was replaced by fourth referee Fernandez Buergo in the last half hour of the match.
According to Spanish media, Buergo does not have the necessary licenses to lead a match in La Liga. Which means that the match between Real Madrid and Sevilla is invalid because of him.
The crisis lies in the fact that the referee is not certified to officiate matches that use video assistant referee technology. While Article 189 of the Spanish Football Federation regulations confirms the necessity of his approval in order to be able to lead a match in the Spanish League.
basing on this, Sevilla can file a formal complaint which will likely be accepted. To restart the match again.
Perhaps what supports the Andalusian club’s complaint is the fact that Buergo has never officiated a match in La Liga. Which confirms that he was not qualified to lead the match between Real Madrid and Sevilla.
Real Madrid raised its points tally thanks to this victory to 65 points, at the top of the La Liga standings, 8 points behind the closest competitor, Barcelona.
