Nico Schlotterbeck has reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to extend his contract, keeping him at Signal Iduna Park until the summer of 2031.
The German international had been on the radar of several top clubs, most notably Real Madrid, given that his current contract only runs until the summer of 2027.
Dortmund’s management gave Schlotterbeck a deadline to make a final decision on renewing or being put up for sale next summer, with a deadline of the end of his current contract.
According to Bild, Schlotterbeck and Dortmund have reached a draft agreement on the new contract, which will make the center-back one of the highest-paid players in the Ruhr region.
The 25-year-old is expected to earn up to €14 million annually, including bonuses and incentives.
At the same time, the contract will include a release clause, reportedly only €60 million, but its activation is not possible until the summer of 2027.
In this way, Schlotterbeck is practically out of Real Madrid’s plans. His departure this summer is impossible, and the cost of acquiring him in 2027 would likely be unacceptable to Florentino Pérez’s administration, which is very strict about enforcing a spending cap on new signings.
